Turn MP3 files into an audiobook with chapters

FG: Audiobook Maker is a free macOS app that binds MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, OGG, Opus and WMA files into a single M4B audiobook for Apple Books, with chapters, cover art, title, author, narrator and series. Everything happens on your Mac; nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Drop your files. Drag in files or a whole folder, even with CD 1, CD 2 inside. Each file becomes a chapter, sorted the way Finder sorts them, named after the file.
  2. Check the details. Title, author, narrator and cover are filled in from the tags of the first file. Reorder or rename chapters if you like.
  3. Click Bind. The app creates the M4B, checks that chapters, cover and tags are all there, and adds the book to Apple Books.

Formats

Files in: MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, OGG, Opus, WMA. Mixed formats in one book are fine.

Book out: an M4B audiobook (AAC) with chapters, cover art, title, author, narrator, series and number, added to Apple Books or Music.

If every file is already AAC with the same settings, the audio is copied as is — no quality loss and very fast. Otherwise it is encoded to AAC with the bitrate, sample rate and channels chosen in Settings.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. All features are free, with no limits on the number or length of books. Sponsorship is optional.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The audio is processed on your Mac, and the app never sends your files anywhere.

Will the sound quality drop?

If all files are already AAC with the same settings, the audio is copied without re-encoding. Otherwise it is encoded to AAC with the quality you choose in Settings.

Where does the finished book go?

To your Music folder by default, as “Author - Title.m4b”, and it is added to Apple Books. You can pick another folder or Music in Settings.

Which Macs are supported?

Any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.

Can I change the chapter order and titles?

Yes. Drag chapters to reorder them and double-click a title to rename it. The files themselves stay untouched.
